What is lymphatic drainage ?
Lymphatic drainage uses very light rhythmic pressure to stimulate the natural movement of lymph through the body. Different from medical post-surgical drainage : we serve the aesthetic and well-being version, not the post-op or lymphoedema medical treatment.
Aesthetic lymphatic drainage targets the well-being symptoms of slow lymphatic flow : leg heaviness, ankle swelling, water retention in the lower legs and around the eyes, post-flight edema.
Important distinction
Aesthetic drainage (our offer) : for well-being, prevention, pre-event tightening, post-flight recovery. Light rhythmic pressure, 60 or 90 min.
Medical drainage (NOT our offer) : post-surgical (after liposuction, abdominoplasty, breast surgery), lymphoedema, post-cancer treatment. This requires a medical protocol (Vodder or Leduc method) by a trained physiotherapist, ideally in a clinical setting on doctor’s prescription.
When to book aesthetic drainage
- Pre-event (wedding, photo, runway, gala) : 24-72h before, for visible reduction of ankle and facial puffiness.
- Post-long-haul flight : within 24-48h of landing, for jet-lag edema.
- Summer months (May-September) : when leg heaviness recurs with heat.
- Hormonal cycle : a few days before menstruation, when retention peaks.
- Seasonal cure : 6 sessions over 4-6 weeks for a lasting effect, particularly before summer.
What you can expect
Visible reduction of ankle and calf swelling (typically -1 to -2 cm in tour de cheville measurement). Lighter sensation in the legs for 24-72h post-session. Better night sleep if leg heaviness was disturbing it.
What it does NOT do : burn fat, eliminate cellulite, treat varicose veins, replace medical care for venous insufficiency. We’re honest about what aesthetic drainage achieves : it’s a real but limited and temporary effect.

Book a therapist →Our therapeutic approach
A typical session at home in Geneva, step by step.
1. Brief check-in
Where you feel heaviness, recent travel, hormonal cycle, any varicose vein history, recent surgery (which would contraindicate).
2. Position setup
Supine (face up), with the legs slightly raised on a bolster. The therapist works from the ankles upward, never downward.
3. Ankle and calf drainage (15 min)
Light rhythmic pressure upward from ankles to knees. The pressure is much lighter than Swedish or therapeutic : almost imperceptible at first.
4. Thigh and groin lymph nodes
Gentle stimulation of the lymph nodes at the groin and behind the knees. The body’s lymphatic flow drains through these points.
5. Abdomen and chest (optional)
If you’re comfortable, a light circular drainage of the abdomen and around the chest helps the upper drainage. Some clients skip this step.
6. Closing : facial or full reflexology
On 90 min sessions : either facial drainage (for pre-event) or a closing reflexology to anchor the parasympathetic state.
When to seek urgent care
If the pain comes with unexplained fever, a sudden loss of strength in a limb, progressive pins and needles, bladder or bowel problems, or follows a major trauma, see your doctor or emergency services immediately.
At-home physiotherapy is for common pain : it complements, and never replaces, a medical assessment when there are warning signs.
Frequently asked questions
Will lymphatic drainage help me lose weight ?
No. Aesthetic lymphatic drainage does not burn fat. What it does : reduces water retention, which can give a visible (but temporary) slimming effect on the legs and face. If you want weight loss, that requires diet and physical activity ; drainage is at best a complement, not a substitute.
How many sessions for visible results ?
For a one-off event preparation : 1 session 24-48h before, possibly 2 sessions spaced a few days. For a sustained seasonal effect (pre-summer) : 6 sessions over 4-6 weeks. For maintenance : 1 session per month.
Can I have drainage after liposuction or another aesthetic surgery ?
Not in our protocol. Post-surgical drainage requires a medical Vodder or Leduc method protocol, typically in a clinical setting on a doctor’s prescription, usually a physiotherapist. We serve only the aesthetic / well-being version. Discuss with your surgeon’s team.
Can I have drainage during pregnancy ?
From the 4th month (2nd trimester) onwards, yes : it’s particularly appreciated for leg heaviness that increases in the 3rd trimester. Mention pregnancy at booking ; we apply the prenatal protocol and the drainage technique is integrated within it.
I have varicose veins. Can I still book ?
Mild varicose veins : yes, with light pressure and avoidance of the most visible vessels. Marked varicose veins, recent phlebitis, or chronic venous insufficiency : consult your angiologist or vascular doctor first. We may decline the session if the medical situation isn’t clear.
Is drainage covered by my insurance ?
Aesthetic drainage : no, not under LAMal (it’s wellness, not medical). Some LCA (complementary insurance) plans cover medical drainage on prescription. Aesthetic drainage at home is typically not covered, even by LCA.
How is it different from a regular massage ?
Pressure is much lighter (almost imperceptible at first). Movements are slow, rhythmic, and always directed toward the lymph nodes. The session has less of a ‘massaged’ feeling and more of a ‘gently brushed’ feeling. The effect on the body is different : less muscle release, more circulatory effect.
