About this style

What is sports massage  ?

Sports massage uses techniques borrowed from therapeutic and Swedish but applies them with knowledge of athletic muscle chains and recovery timing. The therapist asks about your sport, your calendar, and your last training to tailor the session.

Sports massage isn’t a single technique : it’s a contextualised application of manual work, calibrated to the muscle chains used by your sport and the timing of your training calendar.

Three use cases

  • Pre-event (3-5 days before) : stimulating, light to medium pressure, focus on the chains that will be used. No deep work that could fatigue the muscles before the event.
  • Post-event (24-72h after) : drainage of metabolic waste, deep work on the chains that were heavily loaded, recovery acceleration.
  • Regular maintenance : 1-2 sessions per month during training season to prevent muscle imbalance and reduce injury risk.

Sports we serve regularly

  • Road running (Geneva Marathon, Sierre-Zinal, regional trails).
  • Cycling (road, MTB, climbing-focused).
  • Trail and ultra-trail.
  • Triathlon.
  • CrossFit and HIIT-style training.
  • Ski (downhill and ski touring, especially Verbier-area weekenders).
  • Tennis and racquet sports.
  • Golf.

Integration with your protocol

If you work with a sports physician, physiotherapist or coach, we coordinate easily. Bring (or describe) the protocol you’re following ; we work in line with it. No conflict with prescribed physiotherapy ; complement to recovery work.

Notre approche thérapeutique

A typical session at home in Geneva, step by step.

01

1. Sport-specific check-in

5-10 minutes : your sport, last training, upcoming event or competition, current pain or stiffness, recovery goals.

02

2. Pre-event protocol (if applicable)

Light to medium pressure on the chains that will be used. Stimulation of circulation, joint mobility. NO deep knot work less than 5 days before a race.

03

3. Post-event protocol

Drainage of metabolic waste, deep work on the chains heavily loaded by the event. Particularly effective 24-72h post-effort.

04

4. Maintenance protocol

Mix of therapeutic and Swedish, focus on muscle imbalances common in your sport (e.g. hip flexors for cyclists, calves and Achilles for runners).

05

5. Sport-specific stretching

Passive stretches calibrated to your discipline. Particularly useful for hip flexors, hamstrings and thoracic mobility.

06

6. Recovery brief

Realistic recovery timeline before next training. Hydration, sleep and nutrition pointers if relevant.

When should I book around a race ?

For an event with high stakes (marathon, ultra, triathlon, major competition) : 3-5 days before for the pre-event session, then 24-72h after for recovery. Avoid deep work 24h before : the muscles need to be fresh on the start line.

I’m not a competitive athlete, just a recreational runner. Is sports massage right for me ?

Yes. Recreational runners and weekend cyclists benefit from sports massage as much as competitors, often more. The muscle chains used by 30-60 km / week of running benefit from regular maintenance to prevent imbalance and injury.

Pre-event : will it make me feel sluggish on race day ?

Not if done correctly. The pre-event protocol (3-5 days before) uses light-to-medium pressure that stimulates without fatiguing. The risk of a sluggish race comes from a deep-tissue 24h before : which we don’t do.

Post-event : is it really worth it ?

The science is moderate but real : sports massage 24-72h post-event significantly reduces perceived muscle soreness, improves sleep quality the night after, and shortens subjective recovery time. The effect on next-cycle performance is less clear, but the comfort benefit is documented.

Can you coordinate with my physiotherapist or coach ?

Yes. Bring (or describe) the protocol you’re following. We work in complement to physiotherapy (which is medical and prescribed) and to your coach’s plan (which is performance-oriented). No conflict, no replacement of either.

I have an old injury (ACL, Achilles, stress fracture). What should you know ?

Mention it at booking and at the session check-in : type of injury, date, whether it’s fully healed or still recovering. The therapist adapts pressure and avoids problematic ranges of motion. For injuries less than 6 months old : medical clearance recommended.

Do you serve ski resorts (Verbier, Crans-Montana) ?

Not on-site for now : our coverage is the canton of Geneva. But many of our clients book at their Geneva home the day before driving up to the Alps or the day after returning. We may extend to Vaud and Valais in future seasons.
